MBYLL (Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League) & MBGLL (Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League)
Jamborees and More Lacrosse Opportunities

Program Overview

The program is open to girls and boys who are North Attleboro residents and are in grades 1-8.  The Girls program is in the Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League. The boys program is built around participation in the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League.  Older boys can also tryout to participate in a competitive league called MBYLL Select.

What are the age groups?
There are four age groups based on grade levels. Depending on your child’s birthday, there could be some exceptions made to this, but this is pretty standard:

  • U9 - Grades 1 & 2
  • U11 - Grades 3 & 4
  • U13 - Grades 5 & 6
  • U15 - Grades 7 & 8

How do I keep up to date with North Attleboro Big Red Lax?
Follow us on Facebook

When is the season?
Skills & Drills sessions are held indoors and begin in mid to late January through to the end of March and are held at the MPLEX in Mansfield on Saturdays and Sundays. The lacrosse season starts at the beginning of April or when the fields are open. Practices are held twice a week, once during the week and once on Saturdays. Games also begin in early April and are scheduled on Sundays.  Games are scheduled during both of the school vacation weekends, but not during Memorial Day Weekend.

Who do we play?
All of our teams are "travel teams" and we play other towns, both home and away.

My child hasn’t ever played lacrosse, is it too late for him/her to start?
Absolutely not!  We have first time players in many of the grades each year. If your child would like to give lacrosse a try, then he/she should.  Here are a few things that can help out before the season starts.  1) Get a stick and starting using it and playing with friends.  2) Look for a skills clinic or camp that can help your child learn basic skills.  Some of these are listed on our web site under Camps & Clinics and we do send out information about local clinics via Facebook.  3)  Watch college or pro lacrosse games! During the season, we provide schedules on our HS and College Schedules page.

When are the practices?
Skills & drills practice sessions are held indoors and begin in mid to late January through to the end of March. These are held at the MPLEX in Mansfield on Saturdays and Sundays. The lacrosse season starts at the beginning of April or when the fields are open. Practices are held twice a week, once during the week and once on Saturdays. Practices can be held at Rose Field or at NAHS.

When are the games?
Games begin in early April and are played on Sundays between 9 am – 6 pm at NAHS. Teams may also play a few weeknight games during the season. Games are scheduled during both of the school vacation weekends, but not during Memorial Day Weekend.

What is the attendance policy?
Lacrosse requires unique skills and knowledge.  Low attendance at practices negatively impacts the player, team and coaches, leading to player dropout even beyond the absent individuals.  While we encourage athletes to play a variety of sports, we expect that your son will make a commitment to attend lacrosse practices and games in the spring.

For those that try out and make the Select Team, the league mandates that you fully participate in your Classic Team.  You will need to attend Classic Team practices and games in order to be eligible to play in Select Team games.

Registration Information

When and how do I register?
Registration opens in the Fall, usually in October and online via this website. When registration is open, click Register on the website and that will provide the links for the different age groups.

Why is registration in the fall for the spring season?
While it seems early, there are a number of items that must be completed in late fall and early January, including team submission to the leagues, uniform ordering, booking indoor practice time for winter Skills & Drills, and coordinating field time with the town.

How much does it cost to play?
To see the cost and details for the most recent season, visit our Register page. The process is slightly different for Girls and Boys, but players are also required to become a member of US Lacrosse (girls) and MBYLL (boys), which provides basic insurance for the program and is required by our leagues. The cost includes the indoor Skills & Drills, as well as the Spring Season.

Is financial assistance available?
We believe that no child should be denied the chance to play due to financial reasons. To request financial assistance, please email  to send a request to our Board of Directors.

Uniforms and Equipment
Our uniforms include a two-color reversible jersey and shorts and are ordered during registration. Equipment needed varies for girls and boys. For detailed information, visit Player Equipment & Uniforms.

MBYLL (Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League) & MBGLL (Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League)

What is MBYLL and MBGLL?
The North Attleboro Big Red Lacrosse program plays in the South Central division of the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL) and Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League (MBGLL). Our schedule and rules are set by these leagues, based on recommendations from US Lacrosse.

What are the leagues’ philosophies on league standings?
There are no standings kept, no league championship or playoffs.  All teams from each town are equal in skill (no A team, B team) and everyone plays as equally as possible.  The goals are teaching the sport and providing a fun experience for all involved.  To learn more, visit: http://mbyll.org/ and http://mbgll.org/

MBYLL Select Team (Boys U13 and U15)
MBYLL Select is a competitive league for boys at the U13 and U15 age groups, that is structured to provide an add-on schedule complementary to the regular MBYLL Classic teams. Tryouts are held during the winter (usually December) for boys interested in participating. The Select Team is an add-on league and league rules state that playing in MBYLL Select is contingent on playing for the regular MBYLL Classic league.

How is MBYLL Select different than MBYLL Classic?
The MBYLL league was built to grow the sport of lacrosse in Massachusetts.  Within MBYLL, there are no standings, no playoffs and player skills are divided evenly among teams to foster growth and learning in a relaxed, low pressure environment.  MBYLL Select is a league for those players that are 100% committed to the sport of lacrosse in the spring and want to play at a higher level. There Standings are kept for this league and playoffs are held at the end of the season. This is a competitive situation where players compete for playing time and our goal is to showcase our strongest players.

What is the attendance policy for the Select Team?
MBYLL players are expected to be committed to lacrosse in the spring season meaning they will choose lacrosse over other activities. Outside of family and school commitments, MBYLL Select players are expected to attend lacrosse practices and games for both their MBYLL Classic and MBYLL Select teams. Not living up to this expectation will impact game playing time. Please consider this carefully before committing to the MBYLL Select program.

When are practices and games for Select?
Select Team players have one Select team practice per week in addition to their two Classic team practices each week. Players are expected to attend all practices. Games are played Friday evenings, start times are generally between 6pm - 8:00pm. There will be both home and away games.

What is the MBYLL Select playing time policy?
While all players with a good attendance record will have reasonable playing time, equal playing time is not guaranteed.

How much does MBYLL Select cost and are there additional uniforms?
The registration fee is $200 per player. Our standard NA Big Red Lacrosse uniforms are worn.

Jamborees and Lacrosse Opportunities

Boys Jamboree
Organized by MBYLL, the year-end Jamboree is said to be the largest lacrosse event in the nation and is held at Fort Devens. This is an optional tournament for U11, U13 and U15 players. Any player that would like to play can sign up.  Typically, the Jamboree is held the second and third weekend in June with games on a single day of a single weekend (day/date TBD).  This is an end -of-season fun family-oriented event that is an opportunity for the boys to get a feel for tournament play, involving short and competitive games against towns from all over Eastern Massachusetts.   We generally send one or more teams per age group each year, based on sign-ups. Information on how to sign up will be communicated during the spring season.

Girls Jamboree:
Typically held the second weekend in June at a local high school facility in eastern MA.  This end -of-season is an opportunity for the girls to get a feel for tournament play that involves short and competitive games against towns from all over Eastern Massachusetts.  This is a fun family-oriented event that lasts the entire day.

Camps, Clinics and Club Teams
There are many opportunities for boys and girls to play more lacrosse! Check out our page for links to these additional lacrosse opportunities.
